BiliCalc: the tool I needed on the ward

Neonatal jaundice decisions depend on bilirubin thresholds that vary by gestational age and by the hour of life. Checking them means paging through guideline charts under time pressure. As a physician I lived that problem, so I built the app that removes it.

01The problem

The thresholds for treating neonatal hyperbilirubinemia are published as dense charts in two different guideline systems. On a busy ward, reading the right curve for the right gestational age at the right hour is slow and error prone, exactly where errors matter most.

02What I built

BiliCalc presents guideline data as an interactive reference: pick the guideline, gestational age, and hour of life, and the relevant thresholds are in front of you. No interpretation layer, no black box: the app shows the guideline values themselves, so clinicians stay in control of the decision.

03Where it stands

Published on Google Play with over a thousand downloads and a 4.6 rating, used by pediatricians and residents as a quick bedside reference.
